I have Ann Patchett to thank for pushing me to make a long held dream a reality. Not personally of course, her collection of essays, These Precious Days. Her bookstore, Parnassus, has become a community hub providing employment to book lovers, a space to talk about and recommend much loved books, a support for local and aspiring authors, and a fun place to encourage young readers.
That was my dream and a vacant space in the cottage in The Lifestyle centre was calling me to action.
Nestled in the beautiful Samford valley amongst, plants, chicken, yarn, gifts and great food and coffee you can now find a book haven where you can sit by the fire, baffies oan, and peruse anything from the latest releases to your favourite classics.
So, what does Baffies Oan mean. Quite literally, slippers on. It is a nod to my Scottish heritage and the desire to promote a slower approach to life.
The bookstore aims to create a warm and inviting atmosphere where you can take your time to find the right book for you. There are comfy chairs, a large table to sit and write at, if you feel the urge and helpful staff to help you find your next story.
So, time to put your Baffies Oan and relax.
